Photo Print: The pill by Yaroslav Vasiliev-Apostol

The pill on the table is just a key to understanding the picture. By the way, a common button played the role of the pill, because a pill is too small and gets visually lost. Through this work, I would like the make the viewer to think about the blind horror of drug addiction, not from the documentary point of view but from the visual point of view. The frame with the glass represents the edge of the reality. A man is in the frame, holding onto the glass, as if he is a part of a herbarium behind a lab glass. He does not see the real world and perhaps he denounced this world himself. There is something big and horrifying outside of the edge of the reality, represented by the outstretched arms. The picture was taken in two stages. First, the model with the framed glass (the central part of the picture, where he is pressing his fingers to the glass). Then the camera has been moved, the shot was printed the size of the frame, and the second shot was taken with arms outstretched from behind the frame. The black "smoke" or spot on the top of the picture, a representation of the "ordered" chaos, was done in a fractal generating program.
