Photo Print: Adam Morfran's Last Case by Henrik Mårtensson

This photo was a prestudy for a Horror/Thriller genre photo comic. I had been cramming Noir style lighting for weeks, looking at movies and photos photos, and reading books. I also created a mood board for the project. I got the idea for this particular shot about 4 o'clock in the morning one sleepless night. I fastened a white bedsheet in the frame of my kitchen door with gaffer tape. I used a flash on a shoot through umbrella to light the sheet, and create a white rectangle behind me. I put a 30mm lens on my camera, put the camera on a Gorilla Pod, and put the Gorilla Pod under my kitchen table. My first attempt was just a silhouette photo. Then, I got the idea to light my eyes. I tried using a snoot and a speed grid, but quickly fond that the pool of light was too large, and the wrong shape. I needed a long, thin, sliver of light. The idea I came up with was to tape a pizza box to the flash in the kitchen. I taped the end of the pizza box partly shut, so only a thin sliver of light could make it through. Aiming the light from the pizza flash took a few tries, but worked very well in the end. You might wonder what became of the noir style horror/thriller photo comic project. Alas, it descended into insanity and died a horrible, protracted death, much like Adam Morfran in the story. I do have hopes of eventually reviving it though. :-)
