Photo Print: No Exit by Ariel Ariel

Tutorial: No Exit! Wrong, there is always one! I find my photographic ideas often seeking inspirations from the extremes of life’s conditions and the varying degrees of emotional responses we as living beings display. The idea for this image surfaced my mind when I was visiting the Cathedral in Saint Paul (Minnesota) about a month before the day of photographing this image. I saw a man sitting on one of the pews, unsettled, leaning forward (almost in the posture seen in the image) as if asking questions to the “unknown”. It felt like a moment of desolation and despair, yet also the moment of prayer and hope. It was like a moment of “No exit”, yet seeking to believe that there is always one. That image stayed in my mind. Since photographing people in their private moments is not often encouraged, especially in a church, I decided to take help of a friend to bring this concept to life.
