  Lovis Corinth was a significant German painter of the 19th and 20th centuries, known for his expressive artworks. Born in 1858 in Tapiau, East Prussia, Corinth began his artistic career as a student of landscape painter Wilhelm von Gebhardt.

Throughout his career, Corinth became best known for his exquisite portraits, which he captured on canvas paintings. His works were characterized by a powerful and passionate expression that often depicted his models in dramatic poses.
